SJ Clothing Swap is mutual aid for our community through clothing and fabric, with an emphasis on sustainability, queer expression, intersectional community care, accessibility, and community organizing. We’re focused on:
We want to help you clear your closet of clothes, shoes and accessories that you don’t wear, and take home amazing new styles for free!
There are enough clothing on this planet for the next six generations, and yet 80-150 billion new clothing are produced every year. The sheer number of clothes that are produced, purchased, shipped off to the Global South and thrown away into landfills and the ocean is astronomical. Clothing is produced so fast that it’s unwearable due to the low quality and lack of attention to details, sizing, and material.
Clothing is a significant component of a person’s autonomy. It is a person’s first line of shelter and defense.
We’ve created an orientation for volunteers or participants that want to join the swap! We have several teams for different types of work, so if you feel like you can’t make it to the monthly, 2nd Sunday of the month event, or if you can’t make it in person, we have projects to work on.
We need help in every team, from Event Operations to Style to Marketing!
